When I discovered this area in the early 90’s it instantly became one of my favorite places to visit. Frequently, you could stand alone amidst this panoramic view sharing it only with the resident wildlife or waterfowl which happened to be in the area. There is a stillness to this setting where all you may feel is a gentle breeze passing by your face. All you may hear is the sound of ducks and geese chatting along the shore or the sound of a nearby moose plowing through the thickets of willow. But, it’s what you may see that keeps you coming back over and over again.
One of my most successful images, “Evening Glow,” was a setting sun captured here some years earlier. Ever since that October trip, I have returned almost annually, spending each evening with tripod positioned, camera mounted, composition prepared all the while checking and rechecking exposure. Then, I would wait. Some places deserve such attention, patience and perseverance. This is one of them. Still, you never know when the “magic light” of a sunset will reappear. It has to be pursued. After numerous trips to the Grand Tetons and probably at least 20-25 nights of preparedness, nature finally rewarded me with this new image. I hope you like it.
