#27 The Last Stand
Acadia National Park, Maine

Often when I plan my photography trips, I attempt to minimize any competition that may exist. Whether I’m competing for an elk, a lighthouse, a panoramic view or a hotel room, for me less is more. It was now November 1st and while there was no one competing with me for a subject, I had to work much harder to find the colorful subject I was seeking. I had been looking long and hard for birch trees to photograph. I love their trunks, so beautifully patterned and textured. Each as unique as any snowflake, all of which contribute to their allure. Finding them dressed in gold would be a bonus I could only hope for. An opportunity finally presented itself in a valley sheltered from the elements. There they were, a stand of birch shrouded in gold and contrasted with a sprinkle of spruce. It was the last stand.
